The Cromwell Association
The Cromwell Association was formed in 1937 and its purpose is to increase understanding of the life, achievements and legacy of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658). One of its core activities is the commissioning, on behalf of the Association, or in partnership with others, plaques, panels and memorials at sites significant to Cromwell. The Fortress Study Group
The Fortress Study Group is a charity devoted to the study and preservation of fortifications in the age of artillery (roughly from 1500 A.D.). The National Civil War Centre
The National Civil War Centre - Newark Museum opened in 2015 and provides a national focus on the key events of the British Civil Wars of the 17th century and their consequences for the nation and the wider world. The Newark Museum aims to tell the story of the district of Newark and its residents. The Civil War gallery, and associated temporary exhibitions, examine the causes, effects and legacy of the Civil Wars at a local, national and international level. Our aim is to become the place to go to learn about the Civil Wars and the effects they had on our nation, some of which are still felt today. The John Hampden Society
The John Hampden Society exists to bring together people with an interest in John Hampden, and to encourage a wider knowledge of this great 17th century Parliamentarian, his life and times. One of the Society’s charitable objectives is to preserve and conserve monuments and artefacts associated with John Hampden. The Society is pleased to actively support the project to create a publicly available register of the location, condition and ownership of memorials associated with the British Civil Wars of the seventeenth century. The Pike and Shot Society
Founded in 1973, the Pike and Shot Society is an international organization that promotes interest in the warfare of the Early Modern Period, a time that saw radical change in the way in which wars were fought world-wide. Its main activity is the publication of its highly respected bi-monthly journal Arquebusier as well as specialist books, monographs and booklets. The Scottish Battlefields Trust is dedicated to promoting, interpreting, and ultimately protecting Scotland’s Battlefield heritage. As an organisation, we act as a hub, not only for battlefield commemoration, but also mutual support for interest groups, while campaigning for better understanding and legislation to protect Scottish Fields of Conflict.
